Employment Law

  • Successfully defended an optometrist in a case involving employment law. Client was accused of not paying employees overtime.
  • Successfully defended a school district against a discrimination lawsuit in San Diego federal court. The jury trial lasted four weeks and involved $2 million in exposure.
  • Settled a complex $4 million lawsuit against a publishing company for same-sex sexual harassment.
  • Represented a cadet who was erroneously accused of cheating and had been kicked out of both the police academy and a community college in California. With a union lawyer’s help, cadet was re-instated and received benefits and full back pay. Case won against the Deputy Attorney General for the State of California.
  • Represented a boat brokerage in Oakland that was alleged to have improperly fired a salesperson for taking “kickbacks”. Achieved a 5-0 on administrative appeal.
  • Represented a doctor who was wrongly accused of patient molestation by a former employer. Case was settled.

Real Estate

  • Counseled a family trust in a lease and easement issue between them, their tenant and a company wishing to create nearby cellular antenna repeater sites.

Trademark Infringement

  • Successfully represented a small business in a trade name infringement case. A large tour company had co-opted the trade name and negotiations successfully stopped the company from using the trade name and forced them to withdraw 10,000 brochures from hotels throughout the Bay Area.

Whistleblower Case

  • Avoided up to $4 million in potential exposure by settling a whistleblower case for a locally-owned company that was being sued by four former employees, using an unorthodox but entirely ethical strategy.

Civil Rights

  • Successfully defended a public entity in a civil rights/paraplegic case filed in federal court in Los Angeles. Used a legal maneuver three weeks before the scheduled trial date to avoid a six-week trial and the potential of a multi-million dollar jury verdict.
